String Type
We re-string rackets with Ashaway, Yonex and Tecnifibre strings in a variety of colours:
Yonex BG65 (0.70mm) - yellow, blue, black, violet, grey, red
Yonex BG65ti (0.70mm) - white, yellow, blue, black, violet, grey
Ashaway Rally 21 (0.75mm) - white, yellow
Ashaway Micropower (0.70mm) - blue, red, pink
Tecnifibre TS35 (0.75mm) - white
If you have your own string that you would like us to restring your racket with, this is not a problem.
String Tension
The general rule regarding string tension is as follows:
Higher tension = more consistent shots with more control but less durability
Lower tension = more power and more durability
New rackets are often pre-strung at a relatively low tension mainly because at lower tensions there is less stress on the racket head and less chance of the racket breaking which is the last thing the manufacturer wants.
When we re-string rackets, tension is measured in pounds(lbs). The normal tension that we re-string at is between 21 to 23lbs but we can re-string rackets at a lower or higher tension if required. The optimum tension is also related to the ability of the player. More advanced players can still generate power with higher tension strings whilsts retaining the consistency and control associated with the higher tension. Stringing your racket at a lower tension should give you more power but you will have less control of the shuttle.
It is also important to note that at higher string tensions, the "sweet spot" of the racket is smaller, so off centre shots can become unpredictable and lack power. At the end of the day it is about finding a balance and that is why we recommend stringing your racket tight but not too tight!
String Thickness
String thickness is also known as string gauge - the higher the gauge, the thinner the string. There are no hard and fast rules in relation to which string thickness you should use as how the string "feels" depends on the player. The general rule regarding string thickness is as follows:
Thin string = more power & control but less durability
Thick string = more durability & holds its tension longer
We stock 21 (0.75mm) gauge badminton string and the thinner 22 (0.70mm) gauge string also. In our experience, there isn't a huge difference between the two gauges but some of our customers prefer one over the other depending on their individual game.
